How to Squeeze in a Workout at Work - Fast and Easy Tips to Do Quick Exercises

If you are like one of the many people in America that has a sedentary job and works more hours than you spend at home or you are a stay at home parent and you spend all of your time with your children, then you understand what it's like to have no time to get in a workout or physical activity. According to WHO, The World Health Organization, approximately 60% of the world's population does not get the recommended amount of exercise needed to be healthy. This is partly due to sedentary jobs and lifestyles. It is a proven fact that exercise reduces stress, builds concentration, gives you more energy, makes you all around physically and mentally healthier.

When I asked some individuals about working out at their office and if they do so the answers that I received were: " I don't have time", "I don't want to get sweaty", "I'm with children all day long so I don't have time to exercise "and "I don't like exercise". In fact the majority of people do have time. They either don't want to, or they don't know what exercises to do. Before I became physically active I was in the same situation as a lot of people. I have a close friend who worked in an office and was 60 to 70 pounds overweight and having health issues. She woke up one morning and decided to join a gym and workout with a personal trainer during her lunch break. After work she would sit in front of the television and exercise while watching her shows. After a while she lost all of her weight. Whether you work in an office or it is at home anyone can reach their fitness goals. Try these exercises and stick with them and you will see results!

1. Pilates:

If you are worried about sweating at work try Pilates. There are many different Pilates exercises you can either do at your desk or during a lunch break. One exercise to do is to sit down in your office chair and practice breathing and engaging your muscles. To do this you will inhale through your nose and pull in your abdominal muscles, then exhale through your mouth and relax. This is a great exercise to build your core.

You can also practice neck rolls at your desk. Sit up straight and tall and practice long deep breathes while rolling your neck.

Another great one is Pilates toe taps. Sit up straight on a ball or chair and one at a time bring one leg in towards your abdominals and chest, then slowly bring your leg out and tap the floor and switch legs.
These are just a few great Pilates exercises to try at work!

2. Exercise ball:

Instead of sitting on a chair in your office replace it with a big exercise ball. This will help with balance and building your core muscles. It is also great for posture.

3. Exercise during breaks or before work:

When going to work in the morning park far away and walk to your office. This is a great way to burn calories and get a little workout in!

Stand while talking on the phone instead of sitting.

If you have stairs walk up and down the stairs during break time and take the stairs instead of the elevator.
These are just a few exercise ideas that can be done at work. These are also great idea if your job is being a stay at home parent. Starting off it's a great idea to do 5 minutes here and there during the day. Another great idea is to talk with other co-workers about starting a walking club or asking your boss if a trainer could come in and train a group for 30 minutes a day.

It is absolutely possible to get healthy and get fit with just a few minutes a day in your office or at home! Once you get started you may get hooked!
